What's been going on this week?

Hello Everyone! I am so sorry that I haven't posted lately, I have been super busy.  From being a newlywed, teacher, coach's wife, friend, etc I have been pull in all directions. So... What have everyone been up to this week. What lesson have you been teaching? Here are some pictures on some things that I captured in the classroom this week. :)

In science, we have been talking about weather. One day we discussed clouds and how raindrops fall.  We discuss that clouds get full of water and become heavy which cause it to rain. Here is the experiment that we did.

Fill a container full of water. Put shaving cream on top to represent the clouds. Take blue food coloring and squirt some in one place (a couple drops). It will become heavy and it will start to RAIN.

Last week, we discussed how paper can change in water. We discussed the different types of paper (construction paper and copy paper) We predicted which paper we thought would absorb water the fastest by using people poppers.  The people popper are folded up like a boat and when it absorbs water it unfolds and they lay flat.  The kids loved seeing the construction paper unfold immediately and the copy paper stayed folded like a boat longer. The students discovered that construction paper absorbs water faster and talked about why that happened.

We have two new math centers this week. One center is called "Pots of Gold." Students put the pots in order from 1-30. After they have put them in order,  place gold on top to match the number.  The other center is our "Describe Me" center.  Students have objects they have to weight on a balancing scale. We use cubes to determine the weight. Then, they tell how long the object is by measuring with cubes.  After they have completed two objects, they compare and see which object weighted more and which one was longer.

I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL weekend!!!

Summer Working (cool stuff for classroom)

I have been busy, busy, busy!! I have been making, creating, printing, laminating, and cutting.  Here is some of things that I have been up too! Tell me what you think.  Hope you like it.  I am excited to use them in my room this year!!

I took a corn and green beans can and cleaned it after I cooked supper and decided to make me nice pencil holders for the classroom.  I first made one for unsharpened pencils and thought it was so cute that I had to make one for my group table. So I added my (new) name to it!
1. Get a can.
2. Scrape booking paper: Cute and glue/tape around the can
3. Ribbon: Tie ribbon around the can. I also taped it down so that it wouldn't slide.
4. Make a Label and glue to the front.

I kept seeing all these cute theme banners that everyone was making for this classroom and it made me want to make one with animal prints. I thought it turned out very nicely. Now, I just have to find a place to put it in my classroom.
1. Cut paper into triangles (The size you desire) I free handed the first triangle and then traced it out for the rest of them.
2. Ribbon: Glue the ribbon on top of the triangle pieces.
3. Make sure that you leave extra ribbon on both sides so that you can tie it up.

CUTE Labels I found from a blog (I am sorry I can't remember who, let me know if it was you so I can give you credit)  I will be using this year for my sorting baskets in the room.  They will replace my old ones from last year.  These are going to match the theme of my room even better. It gets better every year!

Math Centers by Miss. Kindergarten that I have been printing, laminating, and cutting apart for the upcoming school year. I love them so far!

Popsicle Math: Students have to count the dots on the bottom of the popsicle and find the number to match to make the complete popsicle.
Decompose/compose: Students have to count the ten sticks/ones to figure out how much is shown in the bucket.  They will place the matching shovel with the number on the bucket.
Beach Ball Fun: Teen Number Practice.  Students will have to add a number to 10 and then find the correct beach ball with that number.

Some Cute Stuff I found that I am using in the classroom this year!

BOOKMARKS (can not remember who I got these from):
I am going to give every child one of these bookmarks for their reading tubs and a couple in the reading center.
Aren't these the cutest alphabet letter cards.  They are all jungled out and match the theme :) I wish I could remember who's blog I got this off of to give them credit. It was a freebie and they are so cute!

I can not wait to start making somemore things for the classroom.  I am in the process of making a parent common core packet. (so they know what is excepted of their child throughout the year)

REMEMBER.....
Have a very FANTASTIC, AMAZING, TOTALLY TERRIFIC DAY!!

Cute Ideas!

  1. Hi Friends! Wow, it has been forever since I have posted.  I hoping that I can get back to posting more often. It has been really busy here lately with end of year portfolios (you know what I mean) and finishing planning a wedding.  I am getting married in 4 days.. WHOOOO. (I'm jumping up and down) Never thought that this day would come! :)

I just wanted to share some really cute ideas I have found while I was blogging and pinning :)

First, Miss Kindergarten has this really cute math packet that I am going to use for math centers in the classroom.  I am super excited to use it.  You can find it on teachers pay teachers for only three dollars and  there are four activities.

Second, in my classroom we use expo markers and white boards all the time! One thing that I hate about using them is that we have to pass out easers or Kleenexes and it just gets messy with them laying everywhere.  Sometimes the Kleenex never makes it to the trash can.  I found on pinterest this really cute idea about gluing a pom pom ball to the bottom of the marker to use as an eraser.  I LOVE this idea. Here is a picture that I saw on pinterest. Found them here

Third, I was so excited to use these this year for my parent helper gifts.  They are too cute and the parents loved them. I also found these pictures on Pinterest. Found Them at Sunny Days in Second Grade

Fourth, I found these really cute videos of Dr. Suess books!

St. Patrick's Day & Slap Game

Wow, what a day! I had to leave school earlier because I was sick! Three kids were absent, sent one home before I left, and another left after I did. This sickness has got to GO AWAY!  I have been laying in bed all day long.  I am finally feeling a little better to be able to hold down food.  If you know me, I am the type of person that can not sit around without doing anything.  After feeling a little better, I pulled the laptop out and started working on St. Patrick's Day stuff (it will be here before you know it).  I put together a packet. This St. Patrick's Day Math, Reading, & Writing Packet includes:

Math Activity:

What makes 10? Students will match equations to the correct ten frames. (pg. 2-5)

Lucky Charms Sorting Sheet and Graphing Sheet (pg. 6-7)

Literacy:

CVC Words (-at, -an, -ug, -ig, -op, -og): Students will sort cards to the correct cvc family. (other games can be created with the cards) (pg. 8-15)

Writing:

Write the Room Paper (pg. 16)

Writing Paper with Topics (pg. 17-19)
How can you catch a leprechaun?
How could you get to the end of the rainbow?
What would you do with a pot of gold?

I also was looking through different blogs and I found this CUTE idea for students to review their High Frequency Words.  Thanks to Kindergarten and Mooneyisms for the idea.

The game is simple.  I put our vocabulary words on different colored sheets of tag board.  (That way if a word gets mixed up with another stack, it's easy to spot.)  Words cards lie on top of table face up.  I call out a word.  Person to find it first slaps their hand down on top of the card, then takes the card and puts it to the side in "their pile".  Person with the most words wins!

(Hint:  Don't call out the last word when there's just one card left on the table.  Otherwise it becomes a wrestling match.)
