DIY: Burlap Wreath

One of my friends Carrie posted a wreath she made for her house. Can I just say I FELL IN LOVE with it.  So today I went out and bought all the materials to make this wreath.  I give Carrie all the credit for the idea.  I am going to show you how I made it because I know you will LOVE IT too!

 

Steps:

1. I went to Hobby Lobby and Michaels and bought the materials

At Hobby Lobby I bought the Vine Wreath, Burlap, Initial C

 At Michaels I bought the clip on bows

 2. I wrapped the burlap around the wreath. I did about one half of the wreath. Tuck the ends through the vines to make it stay tight. 

3. Attach the flowers. I loved that the flowers were clip on because it made it so much easier/faster

4. Paint the initial the color of your choice. I choose to paint it white.

5. Attach the letter with the burlap. I cut a long strip of burlap to attach it to and hang it with.

6. Hang it on your door

DIY: Tiled Mirror Tutorial

I have seen all those tiled mirrors all over pinterest. I absolute LOVE them.  I have always wanted to make one but knew it would take a lot of work. (that is why I haven't taken the time to do it yet) This past week I was sitting in my living room looking at the huge mirror I have on the way and the light bulb came on. Why can't I just make that big mirror into tiles. 

You know what that means.... Off to Lowes...

 

Here is more detail on how I made it. 

1. I took the huge mirror off my wall!!

2. I went to Lowes and bought some decorative molding that would match the outside of the frame.

3.  I measured and cut the molding to fit the frame. 

4. I sprayed painted the molding to match the frame. (I used the glossy kind)

5. Placed the molding on the mirror and hot glued it down.

6. Hang it back on the wall!

Valentine Math Smartboard Activities and Rhyming Cards

Since I have a five day weekend due to snow and optional teacher workdays, I have been working on valentines math activities and a set of rhyming cards.

This is a notebook file for SMART-boards. It uses the the notebook software. This smart-board activity helps students compose and decompose numbers from 11-19 into tens and ones and some futher ones. Students will look at the tens and ones and show what they will look like in a double tens frame, write the numeral, and show the equation.

Students will listen to the word problem and then work out the problem by using the tens frame. After they have worked out the problem they will write the equation to match.

This pdf has rhyming card pictures and response sheet. Students will match the rhyming cards together or can play a memory game. A response sheet is included for the students to record the rhyming matches.

Tangram Sight Word Bingo Freebie

I found the template to a tangram puzzle from Kellys Kindergarten.  I love all of her mats. Go check them out! Here is the link. You can also find some amazing trangram puzzles at Pre-Kinders.

I took her puzzle and added sight words to each block.  I made several different mats with different sight words.  I am going to have them play bingo!!

Here is how you play:

*Draw a card
*If the students have the word on their mat they fill it in with the shape
*The first student that fills in the picture says BINGO and wins

More updates on Kitchen Remodel

I posted a while ago about the kitchen remodel that has been going on in my house.  The last post showed the before pictures and pictures as we went through the process.  If you want to look at that post you can find it here. If you want to see the most recent updates you can find it here

Here is the list again of the things I wanted done! As you can tell there are a lot more "done's" :)
*Cabinets painted to white (don't like the wood)  Done
*New handles for cabinets Done
*Put crown molding on the tops of the cabinets Done
*Paint crown molding too Done
*Pull the Mica Laminate off the walls behind the counter tops Done
*Fix wall after Mica is pulled off (Plaster and sand) Done

*Put in granite counter tops We have paid for them... Just waiting for them to be installed in three weeks :)
*Put in engineering hardwood floors

The Start of the Kitchen Remodel.... Lots more to do and show.

To start off, I bought my house three years ago when I landed my first teaching job.  It was a year full of excitement.  From getting the teaching job of my dreams, to purchasing a house by myself, and moving.  It was one of the most wonderful feelings I could imagine.  The only problem was I didn't have enough time to work on the house to make it the way I would like it to be since I closed on the house two days before I started school.  First year teaching was hard and I was more concerned about learning the ropes of teaching kindergarten then worrying about decorating and remodeling my house.  In June 2012, I married the man of my dreams.  He moved into my house after the wedding and now I have talked him into starting to remodel the WHOLE house one room at a time.  :) He was not to fond of this idea... because he knows how picky I am. We decided to start this adventure in the kitchen.  (which we still have a ways to go) I didn't think it would be such hard work and take so much time. Here are the things that I wanted done in the kitchen.

The ones that have red beside are the ones we have accomplished. The others are still in progress. As you can tell we have a ways to go!! Here are some pictures of the progress.  I will keep posting updates as we get more done. So keep coming back :)

Taking the Mica Laminate off the wall was not fun.

Putting the crown molding up on the cabinets (They are not painted the same color yet) Still in progress.... and the start of the plastering of the wall to fix the spot from the mica laminate. 

we still have a ways to go but it is on its way!! Today we have started sanding the plaster down and painting the crown molding.  We hopefully should be able to start painting the walls tomorrow or Sunday! Then I can get the granite counter tops!! Here is a sneak peek of the counter tops that I want and the engineering hard wood floors.

 

I can not wait till this project is done.
